Indian Railways Concessional Fares


Indian Railways maintains one of the cheapest fares in the world. It has always aimed at giving the best of service to the public at affordable fares. Besides the cheap fares, railway has a certain category of people who can go ahead to travel at even more concessional rates.

Concessions are 50%, 75% or 100% based on the category and the class of travel. Make sure to read the eligibility criteria and provide the required documents to prove the same. Unless there are no supporting documents for the eligibility, the fare becomes invalid.

Concessions are currently available for:

Disabled persons that include handicapped, blind, deaf, dumb and mentally retarded persons.
Patients suffering from diseases like cancer, heart and kidney problems, AIDS patients, and so on.
Senior Citizens such as men above the age of 60 and women over 58 years of age.
Award recipients in various fields such as industries, bravery awards, honored teachers and police by the President of India.War widows traveling for any purpose at all have 75% concession in the Second Sleeper Class,
Students traveling on study tour, appearing for entrance exam, and so on.
Youths including unemployed youth traveling to attend a job interview, those attending national integration camps, and so on.
Kisans traveling to the national institutes of learning, visiting relevant exhibitions.
Artist and Sports persons
Medical Professionals that include doctors, nurses and midwives.
Others that include delegates to attend any conferences, camps or tours
Izzat MST means persons with low incomes not exceeding Rs.1500 per month and can travel up to 100 km at the concessional fares.
 
Thus, one can avail concessional fares on Indian Railways if falling on any of the above category.
